Vitamin D3, the "sunshine vitamin"

According to official figures, at least 50% of the Swiss population has low vitamin D levels.
A vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of:
Falls
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a precursor to vitamin D that is converted in the body into the physiologically active form of vitamin D (calcitriol). While our skin cells can produce vitamin D3 with the help of sunlight, anything that comes between the sun’s rays and the skin can affect the body’s own vitamin D production. We expose only about 5% of our skin to the sun.
In winter (November–May), due to the low intensity of sunlight and the small amount of skin exposed, we can produce almost no vitamin D in our skin.
Benefits of Vitamin D:
Supports the immune system
Do something good for yourself. Only people who regularly expose themselves directly to sufficient amounts of sunlight or who take an oral supplement can achieve an adequate supply.
Further information on vitamin D intake can be found on the website of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (BLV): www.blv.admin.ch > Topics > Nutrition from A to Z > Vitamin D
Just as vitamin D strengthens our immune system, healthy sleep is also one of the most important pillars of our immune system. Get expert advice at a “Kompetenzzentrum Schmerzfrei Schlafen” on how to start the new day feeling relaxed and well-rested.
