Insomnia

Sometimes it doesn’t take much for sleep
to not come as it should.
Everyone has experienced this. But a sleep disorder requiring
treatment is something else entirely. When we talk about sleep disorders in everyday language
, we usually
mean sleepless nights, tossing and turning in the evening, or
waking up in the middle of the night. Experts refer to this
as insomnia.
Insomnia is primarily a
disorder involving difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep, which can manifest through various
symptoms. It is the most
common sleep disorder. Acute
insomnia, triggered by stressful experiences or upcoming
events, is particularly common.
It
becomes particularly problematic when the consequences of sleep deprivation
become apparent and performance, health, and well-being
are impaired. In the medium or long term,
it can also lead to the worsening or onset of
illnesses. Sleep disorders are considered
a medical condition when those affected
perceive them as pathological and they cause
physical or mental impairments. The opposite sleep behavior, excessive sleepiness (hypersomnia),
can also
result.
