Hard or soft? The difficult mattress question

Which type of mattress is best for me: gel, cold foam, innerspring, or box spring? Should it be firm or soft? These are questions many people ask themselves when looking for the right mattress.

The Problem

You’ve heard somewhere that a firm mattress provides the best support. But is that really true? If the choice were that simple, everyone would sleep wonderfully. No one would be plagued by tension and muscle pain in bed. But unfortunately, it’s not that simple: the market offers countless products and bedding systems in various firmness levels. This alone suggests that there isn’t just one type of mattress that’s the perfect solution for everyone. Every person is uniquely “built,” so there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

Tips:

  • When lying down, your spine should be in a relaxed, natural position.
  • You should not feel any pressure points.
  • Your muscles should be in a relaxed state.
  • When lying on your side, your shoulders and hips should be able to sink in, and your waist should be adequately supported.
