Different Bed Systems

Have you ever wondered which bed system is the best? The bed market is huge and overwhelming—here’s a simple overview.

The Problem

Every mattress and bed system manufacturer promises in their sales brochures that their product is the best. So how are you supposed to figure out which product is best for YOU?

  1. Conventional bed systems:
Conventional bed systems consist of a slatted frame and a mattress. The mattress serves the primary function and often features different zones and layers. If you sleep well on such a system, it’s the right fit for you. In most cases, these systems cannot be adjusted if problems arise.
  2. Pressure systems:
Pressure systems work by distributing pressure, with waterbeds, airbeds, and viscoelastic mattresses falling into this category. Pressure systems distribute your body weight evenly across the support surface, preventing pressure points. However, these systems cannot guarantee an ergonomically sound sleeping position. In most cases, a pressure system cannot be individually adjusted to your body.
  3. Custom-fit systems:
With custom-fit systems, your body is measured. The slatted frame is then individually adapted to your body shape. To achieve optimal results, these systems require expert consultation. This necessitates extensive experience on the part of the salesperson. The major advantage of these systems is that adjustments are possible even after purchase.

The only way to determine which bed system is right for you is through a personal consultation. Even though some manufacturers promise it, unfortunately, no bed system can automatically adapt perfectly to every body.

Tips:

  • Seek personalized advice before buying a bed and make sure that the focus is on you and your needs, not the product.
  • Don’t rely on recommendations. It’s nice if your friends are comfortable and sleep well on a bed, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right fit for you.
  • When buying a bed, look for a return guarantee. It’s not possible to choose the right bed system after just a few minutes of trying it out. If, after several nights, you find that your new bed isn’t right for you, the seller should offer you a free solution to the problem.
